HAJJ/UMRAH: What is Ihram?
Ihram:
Ihram is a sacred state that Muslims enter before performing Hajj or Umrah, signifying purity and devotion. For male pilgrims, it involves wearing two white, unstitched cloths, while female pilgrims wear modest dress, typically white, covering their entire body except for the face and hands. Beyond attire, Ihram entails a spiritual discipline, prohibiting certain actions such as cutting hair, wearing perfume, and engaging in marital relations. This state of sanctity and equality among pilgrims fosters a sense of unity and humility as they embark on their holy pilgrimage.
The ihram refers to two parts,
- The clothing requirement is based on gender.
- The “state” of ihram which involves the preparation, intention, talbiya and the restrictions of ihram.
Preparation:
- Clipping Nails
- Shaving of Pubic/under arm hair
- Wudu or preferably ghusl
- Shortening of mustache and combing of hair and beard (Male)
How to wear the Ihram (Male):
Restrictions of Ihram:
- No Marital intimacy
- Not committing sins
- Avoiding Arguing and disputes

HAJJ/UMRAH: Types of Tawaf
Tawaf al-Ifadah (Tawaf of Visiting):
This tawaf, also known as tawaf al-ziyarah, is performed during Hajj after the standing at ‘Arafah. It occurs on the day of al-Adha or later and is considered one of the essential pillars of Hajj, without which the Hajj is incomplete.
Tawaf al-Qudum (Tawaf of Arrival):
This tawaf is performed by pilgrims upon reaching the Ka’bah after entering ihram for Hajj. It applies to those performing Hajj alone (Ifrad) or combining Hajj and ‘Umrah (Qiran). Scholars differ on whether it is an obligatory duty or a Sunnah act of Hajj.
Tawaf of ‘Umrah:
This tawaf is a fundamental component of ‘Umrah and is essential for its validity.
Tawaf al-Wada’ (Farewell Tawaf):
This is performed after completing all the rites of Hajj and before leaving Makkah. It is obligatory for all pilgrims, except for menstruating women and those experiencing postpartum bleeding. Failure to perform this tawaf requires a sacrifice of an animal suitable for udhiyah as compensation.
Tawaf for a Vow:
If someone vows to circumambulate the Ka’bah, this tawaf becomes obligatory to fulfill the vow.
Voluntary Tawaf (Nafl Tawaf):
This tawaf can be performed at any time and is considered a recommended act of worship.
PLEASE NOTE: Each of these tawafs consists of seven circuits around the Ka’bah, followed by two rak‘ahs of prayer, preferably performed behind Maqam Ibrahim. If praying there is not feasible, the prayer can be offered in any other area of the mosque.

Choosing the Right Package: Why UK-Specific Options Are Key
When booking services or products, especially in specialised fields, it’s essential to consider where your package originates. Opting for a package catered specifically for the UK market can make a world of difference.
Here’s why:
1️⃣ Avoid Language Barriers: Packages from other countries may come with materials, support, or instructions in a different language, creating confusion and slowing down processes. A UK-specific package ensures clear communication and easy understanding.
2️⃣ Tailored to Local Needs: Packages designed for the UK market often take into account the country’s cultural, legal and logistical requirements, making them more practical and effective.
3️⃣ Seamless Support: Customer service and support teams for UK packages are more likely to operate in your time zone and communicate fluently, making problem-solving much easier.
By choosing a UK-specific package, you save time, minimise frustration and ensure a smooth experience. Always ask your provider about the origins of their services or products to ensure it’s the right fit for you.
