ABOUT US
CBHUK (The Council of British Hajjis) was founded in 2006 after concerns were raised over the welfare of British pilgrims during Hajj 2005. These included failed promises by some tour operators and general lack of preparedness by the pilgrims themselves.
Our Mission :
Working for the welfare of British pilgrims and overseas travellers by engaging and working with industry stakeholders to enhance and enrich the pilgrimage experience.
We continue to represent the British Muslim community on matters pertaining to Hajj & Umrah travel and work closely with key industry stakeholders including the City of London Police, British Consulate General Jeddah, Trading Standards, Civil Aviation Authority, and Licensed Hajj & Umrah Organisers.
CBHUK was a founder member of the British Governments Hajj Task Force setup by Baroness Sayeeda Warsi in 2012.
Our CEO, Mr Rashid Mogradia co-founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Hajj & Umrah with Yasmin Qureshi MP and an inaugural meeting held in Parliament on 7th March 2018, where CBHUK was appointed Secretariat to the group.
In 2019, a historic Memorandum of Understanding signing took place between the Council of British Hajjis (CBHUK) and the National Committee for Hajj & Umrah (Saudi Arabia) for mutual cooperation on Hajj & Umrah matters at the Makkah Chamber of Commerce headquarters in the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia in the presence of HM Consul-General Mr Seif Usher and Chairman of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce H.E. Hisham Kaaki.
CBHUK was the research partner with the University of Leeds to publish the first report on the UK Hajj sector in 2019. Read the report here.
