Press Release by The Council of British Hajjis (CBHUK) – 01.02.2017

We are delighted to learn of the successful prosecution of a Hajj travel firm which has resulted in custodial sentences of its directors.  Hajj is a journey of faith and one which every mature and able Muslim aspires to perform at least once in their lifetime.  To know that these unscrupulous agents operate in this market place to deceive and con people off their lifesaving’s is totally despicable.

We commend the efforts of Birmingham Trading Standards, the City of London Police and Civil Aviation Authority in bringing a successful prosecution.

Let this be a clear message to these fraudsters that the law will catch up to them and justice will be served.   We hope the judicial system extends recompense to the victims who were defrauded at the hands of these people and they get their full money back.

We advise all Hajj & Umrah pilgrims to book with reputable and licensed tour operators who hold both an ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) and is Ministry of Hajj & Umrah Licensed.

The recent inception of the Licensed Hajj Organisers a self regulatory trade body who the Council has endorsed and working with, is a positive step to reassuring the public that these companies hold the necessary licenses and its members work towards a Industry Code of Conduct.

Ends.
